EFSA’s “Safe Food, One Future Conference” 2027

Since 2002, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has served as a trusted provider of independent scientific advice and risk assessment, ensuring safety across the EU food chain. Over the past 25 years, food systems have faced numerous challenges—from climate change and zoonotic diseases to antimicrobial resistance and emerging risks.

In September 2027, scientific experts, policymakers, and the food safety community will gather in Parma, Italy, for the “Safe Food, One Future Conference.” The event marks the agency’s 25th anniversary and the launch of its Strategy 2034. Parma, a UNESCO City of Gastronomy and the heart of Italy’s Food Valley, provides an ideal setting for EFSA's mission.

Nikolaus Kriz, EFSA’s Executive Director, stated: “Twenty-five years of science and cooperation have made our food safer, yet the future of food safety will depend on how well we anticipate change, embrace innovation, and work together. This conference is an opportunity to bring science, ideas, and people together to help shape what comes next.”

During the three-day event, participants will review EFSA’s evolution, share achievements, and reflect on key collaborations. Core themes include achieving sustainable innovation, enhancing rapid response to emerging risks, integrating risk communication and social sciences, and the efficient use of data, digitalization, and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
