Hanoi Enhances Food Safety Management Efficiency Through Centralized Slaughterhouse Models

On the afternoon of June 17, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Bui Duy Cuong chaired a meeting with relevant departments and local authorities to evaluate the management of animal slaughter, transport, and trade activities across the city.

At the meeting, Mr. Ta Van Tuong, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, reported that since the implementation of Plan No. 283 on slaughterhouse management until 2030, the city has achieved positive outcomes. Notably, 273 small-scale slaughterhouses across 32 communes and wards have ceased operations, a 40.9% decrease compared to the pre-plan period.

Currently, Hanoi has 428 remaining slaughterhouses, including 9 industrial-scale facilities, 26 semi-industrial facilities, and 393 small-scale temporary centralized facilities. Among these, 39 facilities are under strict daily veterinary supervision in accordance with current regulations.

The Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has actively collaborated with inter-agency inspection teams to guide 80 communes and wards in reorganizing their slaughter networks. Under the directive, slaughtering households failing to meet veterinary hygiene conditions must commit to terminating operations by June 30.

Pilot models in Phuc Loc and Tran Phu communes have demonstrated clear efficacy by integrating small-scale slaughtering households into temporary centralized zones. These areas are now operating stably under close veterinary supervision, contributing significantly to raising food safety standards within residential areas.

Concluding the meeting, Vice Chairman Bui Duy Cuong commended the efforts of local units and emphasized the importance of modernizing management processes to ensure a clean and safe food supply for the capital's citizens.
