Ho Chi Minh City directs resolution of legal bottlenecks to ensure continuity of school boarding meals

In response to reports of schools in HCMC suspending boarding meals due to legal bottlenecks following school network consolidation, the HCMC Food Safety Department has issued a directive requesting the Department of Education and Training, along with local authorities, to coordinate closely. The primary goal is to ensure the students' well-being and maintain stability and food safety in school canteens.

According to the Food Safety Department, the Department of Education and Training must direct school principals to thoroughly review boarding meal requirements. Schools are urged to proactively cooperate with the police and local government to finalize administrative procedures, including the registration of official seals and bank accounts, providing a solid legal basis for signing catering service contracts.

During the period of legal processing, schools are advised to develop temporary organizational plans or extend agreements with reputable suppliers who strictly meet food safety standards. The Department emphasizes that boarding meal interruptions must not be prolonged, as they negatively impact student life and parent peace of mind.

For schools with self-operated kitchens, the education sector requires a comprehensive inspection of facilities, kitchen staff, and water quality. The three-step food verification process and sample retention protocols must be strictly followed before service. Simultaneously, local authorities are responsible for auditing the legal status and food safety compliance of suppliers before school contracts are signed, while increasing surprise inspections to promptly prevent any violations.
