Voters urge stronger food safety management and disaster response
At the NA Standing Committee meeting, voters expressed concerns over food safety and extreme weather, demanding authorities resolve urgent citizen petitions.
On August 28, the National Assembly Standing Committee (NASC) held its 5th session to discuss the citizen petition report for July 2026. In the report, Chairwoman of the Committee for People's Petitions and Oversight, Le Thi Nga, stated that while citizens highly appreciate macroeconomic policies, there is deep concern regarding extreme weather, heavy rainfall, flooding, landslides, flash floods, as well as livestock diseases and food safety issues.
According to the report, as of August 15, 2026, central agencies had addressed and responded to 767 out of 855 voter petitions, reaching a rate of 89.7%. However, public opinion continues to expect more decisive actions on direct social welfare issues, particularly regarding food quality control in the context of complex environmental changes.
Addressing the session, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man emphasized the need to change the mindset regarding petition resolution. He stated: "The issuance of a written response should not be considered the end point; rather, the actual progress of resolving the issue must be the benchmark." The Chairman demanded that "citizen petitions must go from listening to understanding, resolving the people's concerns, and using those issues to revise policies."
Regarding these pressing issues, the NASC unanimously requested that National Assembly committees strengthen strict oversight of areas of public concern. The Government and the Prime Minister were directed to urge ministries, sectors, and localities to resolve petitions regarding natural disaster risk management and food safety, ensuring the rights and health of the public.
Concluding the session, Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Doan Anh, affirmed the importance of refining institutions to remove bottlenecks and create new momentum for socio-economic development, emphasizing that citizen petition work must be practical, effective, and accurately reflect the legitimate aspirations of voters in the new era.
