Hanoi: Handling food safety violations at 6 communes regarding school semi-boarding meals
Hanoi People's Committee reported to the City Council on food safety violations in school meals across 6 communes and the 2026-2030 roadmap for managing informal markets.
The Hanoi People's Committee has officially submitted a report to the City Council regarding the enforcement of food safety (FS) regulations across the city.
During recent monitoring, the health sector established 366 inspection delegations to oversee 9,466 food production and business establishments. Results indicate that 7,980 facilities met safety standards (84.3%), while 1,452 facilities were fined a total of 7.4 billion VND.
Particularly, concerning school semi-boarding meal arrangements for the 2025-2026 academic year, authorities have penalized 16 ingredient suppliers with fines totaling nearly 800 million VND for failing to comply with safety protocols.
Notably, various collectives and individuals in 6 communes—Thuong Tin, Thuong Phuc, Trung Gia, Soc Son, Binh Minh, and Thanh Oai—have been held accountable for violations in organizing school kitchens.
Furthermore, the Hanoi Department of Health inspected 28 bottled water production facilities supplying schools. Test results identified 8 non-compliant facilities, resulting in 450 million VND in fines and a 2-month suspension for 4 facilities.
Regarding infrastructure, the city is prioritizing the removal of informal markets; to date, 216 out of 231 spontaneous trading points have been cleared.
During the 2026-2030 period, Hanoi plans to construct 108 new markets and renovate 118 existing ones. By 2030, the city expects to complete two regional-level wholesale agricultural produce markets in Quang Minh and Yen Thuong communes, contributing to the standardization of the safe food supply chain for the capital.
