Developing Large-Scale Organic Palm Sugar Production Zones in Bay Nui, An Giang
An Giang is establishing a centralized organic palm sugar production zone in Bay Nui, applying TCVN 11041-2:2017 standards to enhance export value and promote sustainable agriculture.

An Giang is actively implementing a project to establish a centralized organic palm sugar production zone in the Bay Nui region, aiming to elevate the value of traditional specialties and create a sustainable supply chain for processing and export.

The palm tree has long been a characteristic symbol of the Bay Nui region, deeply intertwined with the lives of the Khmer community in Tri Tôn and Tịnh Biên. With their drought-resistant characteristics, natural growth, and low vulnerability to pests, they are an ideal crop for the province's green agriculture strategy. According to the An Giang Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the plan by 2030 is to standardize the organic production process through a closed chain, from extraction to processing and distribution.

The development roadmap is phased, with a goal of reaching approximately 200 organic-certified palm trees over 40 years old by the end of 2025, and expected to increase to 500 trees by 2030. Currently, profits from organic products are 1.5 to 2 times higher than traditional methods. Notably, strict compliance with the TCVN 11041-2:2017 standards for soil and water quality management will be key for products to achieve international certifications in the US, Japan, and the EU.

Farmers participating in the model are supported with food-safe collection tools and specialized organic agricultural materials. Mr. Sok Phum, a farmer in An Cư commune, shared that the transition to organic farming has increased palm juice yields by over 20% and ensured stable market access through buy-back contracts with businesses.

Mr. Trần Hoài Hận, Chairman of the Board of Nhơn Hưng Palm Sugar Production and Consumption Cooperative, stated that they are collaborating with over 50 households to implement a closed-loop, chemical-free process. Mr. Võ Văn Lên, Deputy Director of the An Giang Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, affirmed that developing organic raw material zones is a strategic move to build a sustainable An Giang palm sugar brand capable of competing in international markets.
