Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra: Focus on preventing food poisoning, especially in educational institutions

The Government Office has recently issued Notice No. 384/TB-VPCP regarding the conclusions of Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra, Head of the Inter-agency Central Steering Committee for Food Safety. While food safety management has achieved positive results, food poisoning incidents remain complex with an upward trend, raising significant concerns within educational institutions.

The Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that ensuring food safety is a critical task directly impacting public health and the nation's sustainable development. For the final six months of 2026, the Ministry of Health has been tasked with finalizing the action plan and clarifying the responsibilities of ministries, sectors, and localities. A top priority is strengthening communication efforts and shifting community behavior regarding food safety.

Regarding institutional reforms, the Ministry of Health is working urgently on the draft Law on Food Safety (amended) to be submitted to the National Assembly at its second session, 16th tenure. Additionally, the Ministry of Education and Training, in coordination with the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Health, will draft a Directive from the Prime Minister to tighten food safety management in school cafeterias.

In terms of management, ministries and sectors are required to accelerate digital transformation and establish a shared database. The Ministry of Public Security will focus on combating the production of counterfeit and substandard goods. Chairpersons of People's Committees at all levels are required to assume primary responsibility for local food safety, while ensuring human resources and funding for monitoring at the grassroots level.
