Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra Appointed as Head of the Inter-agency Steering Committee for Food Safety
The Prime Minister has signed a decision to consolidate the leadership of the Inter-agency Steering Committee for Food Safety, headed by Deputy PM Pham Thi Thanh Tra.
According to the Government Portal (Chinhphu.vn), Prime Minister Le Minh Hung has officially signed Decision No. 1261/QD-TTg dated July 11, 2026, regarding the consolidation of the Inter-agency Steering Committee for Food Safety.
Under this decision, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra has been appointed as the Head of the Steering Committee. The committee is supported by three Deputy Heads: Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan (Permanent Deputy Head), Minister of Agriculture and Environment Trinh Viet Hung, and Minister of Industry and Trade Le Manh Hung.
The members of the Steering Committee include key leaders from various ministries and agencies, such as Deputy Minister of Health Do Xuan Tuyen (Permanent Member), along with representatives from the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. The structure also incorporates representatives from the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Vietnam Television, Voice of Vietnam, the Vietnam Women's Union, and the Vietnam Farmers' Union.
Decision No. 1261/QD-TTg takes effect from the date of issuance (July 11, 2026), replacing previous regulations on member consolidation stipulated in Decision No. 920/QD-TTg dated August 28, 2024, and Decision No. 1950/QD-TTg dated September 9, 2025.
Regarding its mandate, the Inter-agency Steering Committee for Food Safety is tasked with researching, advising, and proposing strategic solutions to the Prime Minister to address significant cross-sectoral issues. Notably, the committee serves to recommend urgent handling measures in instances where food safety matters exhibit complex developments that threaten public health on a large scale.
