Ho Chi Minh City: Parents Monitor School Meals Through Transparent QR Code System

In Ho Chi Minh City, the 'Responsibility Green Tick' model is creating a breakthrough in food safety monitoring at schools. With just a smartphone, parents can easily scan a QR code to view real images of school meals, while also tracing the origin of ingredients and the details of the suppliers.

On September 8, many parents at Le Van Tam Primary School (Tan My Ward) experienced this feature. Upon scanning the QR code, the screen displays detailed information about lunch and afternoon snack portions, including receipts, the name of the catering company, and delivery times. This public data helps parents feel more confident about the nutritional quality and safety of meals provided at school.

The 'Responsibility Green Tick' model, piloted by the Tan My Ward People's Committee since July 9, is an initiative between the HCMC Department of Industry and Trade and the HCMC High-Tech Association. This initiative not only encourages businesses to commit to supply chain transparency but also enables the community to participate in strict monitoring from production to processing.

Ahead of the 2026-2027 school year, the Prime Minister issued Directive No. 33/CT-TTg on August 14, 2026, to strengthen food safety in educational institutions. In response to this directive, the HCMC People's Committee issued Official Dispatch No. 7916/UBND-VX, requiring educational institutions to strictly control everything from ingredient selection to final supply. With over 3,500 principals having completed training on health and food safety, schools across Ho Chi Minh City are aggressively implementing the transparency of school meals for students.
