Vĩnh Long: Illegal slaughterhouses discovered operating under unhygienic conditions

Recently, the Vĩnh Long Provincial Police discovered and addressed multiple illegal animal slaughterhouses operating in the region, seizing quantities of pork that failed to meet food safety standards. At the residence of Mr. P.V.T. (48, residing in Giồng Trôm Hamlet, Nhuận Phú Tân Commune), authorities identified a large-scale slaughtering operation. Initial inspections revealed that the processed pork exhibited discolored meat and emitted a foul odor, posing a significant risk to consumer health if distributed to the market.

Following the discovery, the Nhuận Phú Tân Commune Police coordinated with the Economics Division of the Commune People's Committee to verify the slaughtering process and the source of the meat, aiming to prevent the distribution of unsafe food. Previously, the Trung Thành Commune Police also cooperated with the Regional Livestock and Veterinary Station No. 2 to inspect the slaughtering facility owned by Mr. L.V.N. (45).

At the time of inspection, Mr. N.'s facility was found to be operating without legal authorization. Authorities documented 3 pigs that had already been slaughtered (weighing approximately 70kg) and compelled the owner to heat-treat the meat, change its intended use, and commit to non-recurrence. The facility has been ordered to cease operations until it complies with all veterinary safety regulations.

In light of these incidents, the Vĩnh Long Provincial Police advises the public to strictly avoid purchasing, transporting, or consuming products from livestock or poultry that are diseased or show signs of spoilage. Consumers are urged to prioritize selecting food products with clear origins, verified by reputable veterinary inspection agencies, to protect their family's health.
