Catering facility in Dak Lak fined 27 million VND for food contamination incident involving larvae
Ni Ya catering facility in Dak Lak has been fined 27 million VND and suspended after guests discovered larvae in a steamed chicken dish prepared by the establishment.
On August 4th, Mr. Y Ngon Nie, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ea Ktur Commune (Cu Kuin District, Dak Lak), officially announced an administrative fine of 27 million VND against Ms. H'Mai Buon Ya (42), owner of the Ni Ya catering service, following a serious food safety incident.
The 27 million VND fine covers two primary violations: a 2-million VND fine for failing to comply with food storage procedures after processing, which allowed insects to enter and resulted in larvae appearing in a steamed chicken dish; and a 25-million VND fine for operating a catering business without the required food safety certification.
Previously, on July 27th, social media was stirred by a video showing guests discovering larvae in a chicken dish at a 70-table banquet catered by Ni Ya. In her explanation to authorities, Ms. H'Mai admitted that negligence during post-processing storage led to this unfortunate incident.
A representative from the Cu Kuin District Health Center confirmed that the preparation area of the Ni Ya facility currently does not meet food safety standards. Local authorities have ordered the facility to suspend all mobile catering operations to focus on addressing the issues and completing the necessary legal procedures before any consideration for resuming operations is made.
