Case of Nearly 1 Ton of Pork Suspected of African Swine Fever Transferred to Investigation Agency
Hung Yen authorities have transferred the case of nearly 1 ton of pork testing positive for African Swine Fever virus to the investigative police for further legal action.
The Department of Market Management and Domestic Market Development (Ministry of Industry and Trade) recently reported the discovery of nearly 1 ton of pork and pork-based products showing signs of serious violations against food safety regulations. Specialized laboratory results from Diagnostic and Testing Station I of the National Center for Veterinary Diagnostics confirmed that 7 out of 9 samples tested positive for the African Swine Fever virus.
The case has been transferred by the Market Management Team No. 9 and the Hung Yen Market Management Sub-Department to the Investigative Police Agency of Hung Yen Provincial Police. This action follows Plan No. 440, a collaborative initiative between the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Industry and Trade to strengthen inspections and handle legal violations related to food safety.
Previously, on July 27, 2026, authorities conducted a surprise inspection of the business facility owned by Mr. N.T.K. in Lo Xa residential group, My Hao ward, Hung Yen province. At the scene, officers recorded 977.8 kg of pork and secondary products stored in poor conditions, failing to meet hygiene standards. Many products showed signs of discoloration and emitted a foul odor, suspected of being diseased animals.
The facility owner failed to produce invoices or documents proving the legal origin of the goods. Initial investigations revealed that this establishment served as both a processing and filtering site for animals purchased from various sources. The owner confessed to frequently collecting weak or dead pigs to process and distribute as food to the market at prices lower than the current market rate.
Based on test results and collected documentation, the case has been identified as showing signs of the crime of 'Violating food safety regulations' under Article 317 of the 2015 Penal Code (amended and supplemented in 2017). Mr. Tran The Manh, Head of Market Management Team No. 9, stated that since the beginning of 2026, the team has transferred 7 similar cases to the investigative agency for prosecution in accordance with their jurisdiction, aiming to prevent dangerous activities that threaten public health.
