Promoting Technology Application in Food Safety Control

The Ministry of Science and Technology promotes modern management tools like traceability, e-labels, and digital product passports to strictly control food safety during the Tet holiday.

Promoting Technology Application in Food Safety Control

To combat counterfeit goods and substandard products, particularly on e-commerce platforms, the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) is intensifying the deployment of modern management tools. This is a critical effort to enhance the effectiveness of food safety control, especially during peak consumption periods such as the Lunar New Year.

Mr. Tran Hau Ngoc, Vice Chairman of the National Office of Standards, Metrology and Quality, stated that the agency is actively coordinating with interdisciplinary inspection teams led by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Health. These activities focus on assessing food safety practices in provinces such as Dak Lak, Lam Dong, Tuyen Quang, and Lao Cai to ensure a fair competitive environment and protect consumer health.

In the context of digital transformation, the National Office of Standards, Metrology and Quality has advised on the implementation of the Law on Standards and Technical Regulations and the Law on Product and Goods Quality (amended), effective from the beginning of 2026. These laws introduce advanced tools such as risk-based product classification, traceability systems, e-labels, and digital product passports.

The operation of a national quality monitoring system, based on technical standards, testing results, and traceability data, will help authorities detect violations rapidly. Furthermore, MOST has published 1,173 Vietnam Standards (TCVN) for food, enabling consumers to proactively verify product information through barcodes, serial numbers, and QR codes.

Metrology also plays a pivotal role in market transparency. Consumers are advised to prioritize pre-packaged foods with clear quantitative information and to patronize reputable establishments that use calibrated measuring equipment to ensure their fair purchasing rights.
