Catering business in Dak Lak suspended following reports of maggot-infested food
A catering business in Ea Ktur commune, Dak Lak, has been suspended and faces fines of up to 33 million VND after guests discovered maggots in a chicken dish.
On July 28, local authorities in Ea Ktur commune (Cu Kuin district, Dak Lak province) issued a suspension order for the Ni Ya catering business, owned by Ms. H'Mai Byă, following consumer reports regarding maggot-infested food.
Previously, on July 27, a video circulated on social media showing maggots in a chicken dish provided by the business for a party hosted by Ms. H'Mut Niê's family in Kram village. The business owner acknowledged the incident, explaining that it resulted from improper storage after food preparation, which allowed flies to contaminate the dish.
Mr. Phung Minh Chuong, Head of the Culture and Social Affairs Department of Ea Ktur commune, stated that authorities conducted an on-site inspection. The verification process confirmed that the business failed to produce a valid Food Safety Certificate. Furthermore, the food processing area did not meet the required sanitation standards.
To protect public health, local authorities have proposed administrative fines for the business owner totaling up to 33 million VND for two violations: failure to comply with food safety regulations during processing and storage (1-3 million VND fine) and lack of a food safety eligibility certificate (20-30 million VND fine). The business is currently required to cease all catering operations until all food hygiene and processing conditions are fully rectified.
