Dong Nai Imposes Nearly 5 Billion VND in Food Safety Fines, Demands Strict Inspection of Collective Kitchens

In the first 8 months of 2026, food safety management in Dong Nai saw significant enforcement. According to a report by the City Interdisciplinary Steering Committee on Food Safety, authorities inspected and audited nearly 3,800 establishments, identifying 745 violations. Of these, 585 establishments were fined a total of nearly 5 billion VND.

Le Truong Son, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Nai City, emphasized that while no major food poisoning outbreaks occurred during this period, risks remain persistent. The city currently manages over 35,300 food establishments. Beyond fines, authorities suspended one business and ordered the destruction of over 2.2 tons of low-quality products and 100 chickens that failed hygiene safety standards.

Notably, police have initiated criminal proceedings in 2 cases involving 5 suspects for severe food safety violations. A notable example includes a business specializing in boneless chicken feet, which was fined nearly 400 million VND for using expired ingredients in its production process.

Given the complex rise of misleading advertisements and counterfeit food products on social media, Dong Nai's leadership has urged authorities to heighten their vigilance. Management efforts must specifically target school lunch kitchens and collective catering kitchens in businesses across the region, from urban areas to border zones.

Le Truong Son directed the implementation of comprehensive and unannounced inspections of collective kitchens to promptly rectify any shortcomings. Complacency regarding ingredient preparation and storage will not be tolerated, ensuring the health and safety of consumers and workers alike.
