Da Nang accelerates the expansion of safe and organic vegetable production

Vegetable cultivation following VietGAP and organic standards in Da Nang is yielding significant economic benefits, enhancing farmers' incomes while actively contributing to environmental protection. These models are fostering a shift in agricultural production mindsets locally.

At Green Farm Cooperative (Bich Tan village, Tam Xuan commune), the entire 3ha area is cultivated using a strict closed-loop organic process. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy, Deputy Director of the cooperative, shares: 'We prioritize the use of vermicompost to improve natural plant resistance. Instead of chemicals, the cooperative utilizes Trichoderma fungi, BT bacteria, and sticky traps in greenhouses to manage pests in an environmentally friendly manner.'

The spread of organic models has promoted sustainable production thinking. In Hung My vegetable village (My Hung village, Thang An commune), approximately 4ha of leafy greens and vegetables are produced under VietGAP standards. Mr. Truong Cong My, a local farmer, states that adhering to safety protocols not only reduces pests but also helps products establish credibility in the market, providing more stable economic value compared to traditional rice cultivation.

According to the Da Nang Department of Agriculture and Environment, the total area of crops certified as VietGAP across the city has now exceeded 570ha, including industrial crops, fruit trees, and annual vegetables. The department is currently advising the City People's Committee on developing an organic and safe agriculture development plan for the 2026 - 2030 period.

Ms. Vu Thi Bich Hau, Deputy Director of the Da Nang Department of Agriculture and Environment, emphasized the plan to promote investment in infrastructure such as water-saving irrigation systems, greenhouses, net houses, and standardized processing facilities. Simultaneously, the city will prioritize the transfer of scientific and technical expertise and the application of digital technology in product traceability, helping Da Nang's clean agricultural products enhance competitiveness and reach export targets.
