EFSA's new Management Board begins its 2026-2030 mandate

On 1 July 2026, the renewed Management Board of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) officially commenced its four-year mandate. Comprising representatives from all EU Member States, the European Commission, the European Parliament, civil society, and food chain interests, the Board reflects EFSA’s inclusive governance model introduced under the Transparency Regulation.

Representatives of civil society and food chain interests were selected following a public call for expressions of interest launched by the European Commission in 2025. The remaining members were nominated or appointed by the Member States and relevant EU institutions. This marks the second mandate under EFSA's new governance structure, running from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2030.

Nikolaus Kriz, EFSA’s Executive Director, stated: 'At a time when scientific evidence is more important than ever in shaping policies and protecting public health, strong governance is essential. The Management Board plays a key role in ensuring that EFSA remains a trusted and forward-looking organization that EU citizens can rely on'.

Regarding its functions, the Board provides strategic oversight of EFSA’s activities. Among its various responsibilities, it appoints external experts to EFSA’s Scientific Committee and panels, and is responsible for adopting the Authority’s budget and work programs.
